state of confusion

Lost my way today
driving to work,
my mind wasn’t on the road,
somehow,
emerald rolling hills
destroyed all sense of direction,
hid the low-rise buildings
that glimmered and teased -
fools gold in the early sun.

Must have driven five miles,
by then
cows were well-wishing,
poppies waved,
a hand painted wooden sign pointed
that-a-way to Daffodil Hill.

The wheel turned
as though by will
onto a dusty drive,
the engine
turned itself off,
keys were in my hand,
and upon the low tin roof
of a barn,
a peacock watched.

The breeze stirred
his swirling, oceanic show
of greens, blues and purples,
he called out
a jungle sound,
his call returned
like an echo.

Around a tree-lined path,
winding through valley and hill
they shimmered, danced,
thousands of them,
in every shade of
happiness.

What a beautiful retreat into nature...I enjoyed this a lot, what a lovely scene you've painted.

So many of us never take time to "stop and smell the flowers" so they say.  This poem is a great reminder to as to why we should.

Well done, corinne.

Sometimes the daffodils just have to take matters into their own hands to take us where we need to be.  I really enjoyed this picture.  Thanks!
