SUNRISE

Like the breaking sunrise,
Your friendship creeps to me,
Slowly warming, illuminating
Things I hope to Be.

And when the sun is hiding,
(Most folks have gone to bed)
I think about the things we've shared
And things that go unsaid.

I know you want your freedom,
Most times I want mine too;
But if some time you change your mind
I'll cash mine in for you.

And if the sun grows colder
And turns into a stone;
I'll shelter in my memories
The warmth that I have known....

So as we both grow older
And wrinkles carve my face,
I'll not forget that sunrise
With things that take its place.

Mike, this is stunning.   I applaud!   Am saving, I just loved it.

REally like this!  I couldn't help but think about the epitome, surely, of a happy relationship is to enjoy freedom together!

I do have to say, I became a little confused with the last two lines.  It's probably me and that I need a nap, but if I take a nap, I won't sleep well tonight, right?

Thank you all, glad you enjoyed this one.
As for the last two lines, from my perspective they are clear if you read them with the previous stanza in mind.  If the friendship dies the warm memories of it will not be lost even though other friendships and loves may come along.

Oftimes, it is the memory of the sunrise that keeps one the warmest. Very nicely written, Mike.

PackRatMike~
This is positively enchanting.
A wonderful read aloud piece.
Delicious lilting rhyme ...
and your last verse just sums it up perfectly.
What a marvelous outlook ...
Well done, my friend.

Why is it your words always find that place in my heart that just  needs touching?
