Wrote this after watching part of a regatta, sculling in real life for my first time. I've made a query as to what one calls the person shouting at the head of the scull. If any of you know, please tell me. I'll be back after choir to read and comment. Virginia Salter skimming the water in smooth, rhythmic shouts unison in flow confident in goal sky cheers with pulses of light, shadow gulls, geese duck, dive knots fly past wake widens in silent ripples to east, west banks anticipation heightens south shore explodes in regaling support cox'n urges on “Push, push, push!” one by one finish line melts into history cheers ebb, laughter ensues hearts slow gentle waves slap shore prattle chatters up crowd squeals, flailing limbs excite air waves Splash! hero’s in the drink, laughter abounds! © March 24, 2001 [This message has been edited by VAS (edited 03-30-2001).] |

VAS, you had me in front of the TV watching the Olympics again. I forget the word you are looking for but if I remember I will let you know. Panne |

Thank you all, and Panne, thank you. I just changed the word coaches to cox'n, the shortened version for those that participate in the sport. I found this out from an instructor via an internet site. I just may change it to coxswain, cuz I'm thinking that might be more understandable to both the informed and uninformed. What do you think? The number of syllables stays the same. |
