Mother shook her head in disbelief of the new love I had found;
But Daddy said, "He has been seen 'tomcatting' all over town."
I didn't want to heed them as I knew he had my heart.
I cried, "This is the truest love that naught but death can part."
I had romantic images of sitting by the fire.
Wrapped in my arms contentedly, he of my heart's desire.
"You're far too young," said Mother, "To truly know your mind."
And Daddy said, "Just wait awhile, another one he'll find."
I couldn't be dissuaded, my folks at last agreed.
I begged them not to worry, there simply was no need.
They didn't know their daughter, had shrewdly hedged her bet.
To keep her love from straying, she'd taken him to the vet.

*grins!*  This is outstanding!   What a storyteller you are.  I could see it wonderfully.  And the ending.......priceless!
