Listening to every heart

0 posted 2001-05-02 11:03 AM

Where my song is

mother only sang
when she was happy
but never to hear her own
voice, no
never to do it to
please others, no
only when she was happy…

dad sang all the time

in the shower, in the yard,
always humming a song
‘neath his breath
or in clear voice
even when his day had
gone far wrong
a whistle would emit
a little tune, or two
and that, my friends, is the clue

when I am happiest, I do not
sing
when I am worried, the songs
come forth
that is
where my song is,
to lift mine own heart.

Oh I so fully understand this, Sunshine, and it's a fantastically beautiful poem, just lovely!  May I forward a copy of it to a special friend?

Karilea,

I sometimes catch myself singing without realizing I'm doing so.  Sometimes my son and I will make up goofy lyrics and have a great time just being silly.     Very good write here.  Thanks!

Thought provoking poem. I know people who are like both your mother and father and then others who sing whether sad or happy or just whistle or sing their fears away. Take all kinds to make the world go round.

Oh this was too good, and so true, as I too only sing when I need to, and that is when the room really clears out! he he

Got me thinking - When do 'I' sing? = like mom or pop? - then I thought of "I whistle a happy tune" (King and I) and smiled again
I really liked this =

I sing when I'm cleaning the house, just like my mom. Lovely little sun ray, thanks for sharing!

Many times in human behavior we "notice" things others miss.

That's a profound observation you have made.  How different people do the same activity with totally different reasons and .... motives.

I think you should expand on this whole train of thought.... of how 2 ppl, do the same things.... but for different and unique reasons.

i.e. .... She folds the towels 3 folds to fit in the closet and hit folds them 2 folds...... cus it's easier.... but they both have their reasons........

and compromise... is the true art of love.

very thought provoking indeed.. you have my mind buzzing.
Thanks for writing this

Karilea--I have always loved to sing...since a child in bed, with my brother in the next room yelling for me to, "be quiet".  I still do, but try to be more considerate of those around me. (usually)    Wonderful poem!

a cheerful, hopeful, honest write...

i sing when i get home... it's the exact opposite of the mundane school and work

Some of the best do both in the course of an evening."
