Listening to every heart

Shifting into Paper Mode

I adore technology and
yet embrace old ways
as thunder rumbles threaten skies
my computer I would save,
so turn off all things electric
less sparks begin to fly,
take my pen, my paper too,
curl up and begin to write

open blinds to see the lightning
                  crashing in the skies
hear the thunder, not so frightening,
as when a child was I
soon the hail it starts to pelter
                  casting leaves all helter-skelter
from marble size the pellets grew
till soon baseballs ‘round us flew

the “vain” in me still
likes the way
my pen forms every line
would I even dare call
this familiar penship “mine?”

                  fading rumbling going eastward
                  other cities soon to feel
the touch of stones from hardened rain
                  as anxiety turns surreal
                  one stands helpless, all alone
as nature throws its natural stones
with only a roof ‘tween skies and head
allays with comfort the feel of dread

my pen and I we formed a bond
several [more] years ago,
I keep my nib clear and free
and let the ink flow so
everyone ‘round me grabs ball pens,
give me my fountain, the
well is deeper then,
and though the familiar click of keys
is not with me in bed tonight,
my trusty pen, my yellow pad
stays with me through the write

hours passed, I knew those minutes
for thoughts of you crept somehow in it
into my safety, you held me tight
we passed swift on through the night
and when the rumbling came again
I stayed ensconced in dream and then
the coverlet that draped my dream
moved by touch of morning’s beam

so this little exercise is not for you,
truly, it’s just for me
an exercise to limber fingers
for yet more poetry.

Karilea
If I whisper, will you listen?...
I would rather be silent and write, than speak loudly and be bound.

I LOVE this...  ... but then of course, I write with a real pen on real paper too... I just can't seem to be creative with a silly screen looking back at me... Nice job, m'friend...

Karilea~
Touch of remembrance here~
While I greatly enjoy the technology of the computer
I still like to 'pen' my poetry with a flourish of ink from time to time.

Very nice imagery of the storm, my friend.

I write in paper, but only with a certain kind of pen, Pilot Bp.S fine. If I run out of ink and can't find it, I can't write. Excellent, Sunshine!

I have started taking my pen to paper more now than in the past couple of years. It is refreshing.  Thank goodness for storms once in a while. I enjoyed this very much.
