What do you tell the children?
When the paddy wagon has come
To cart their mother away

What do you tell the children?
When they've seen mother
Wearing a strait jacket
And heard her swear

What do you tell the children?
As they stare in disbelief

Your mama is sick
So we're taking her away
The doctor's will help her
She will be coming home someday

What do you tell the children?
When they silently know
That it's their fault
That their mother had to go..

What do you tell the children?
When a tear runs down their cheek..

Ah yes, I had thought perhaps...that was so....children always blame themselves first for their parents' problems....

a very sad write....and a very frequent problem....

well done!

Ah, yes, the children are the last to know through divorce and illness that it is not their fault why...Poignant write.

Very good expression here.  Penned well and so truthful, as to an answer to that question: We tell them the truth and hope that as they grow they will come to understand.

With the word, I am mighty, with the pen I am free..

Songbird,
Nice to see you and your beautiful work here again. Loved this although it was sad, friend.   Miss your e-mails.

What do you tell the children?
When they silently know
That it's their fault
That their mother had to go..

Boy I know this all to well.
Wonderful insight.

I can always be distracted by love, but eventually I get horney for my creativity.
