*Note: this is a repost from the former "Community Poem Forum". We were supposed to write about being 'shipwrecked' on a deserted island..here is what I wrote:

I set out on my mission
With fear and trepidation
As I ventured into the depths
Of the island vegetation

I heard a nervous rustling
Along the jungle path
Terrified I thought I found
A hermit psychopath

But it was only kittens
Playing together with such glee
That I didn’t see the mother tiger
Glaring from the brush at me

It gave me a sudden notion
For a poem about a cat
So I took out my little book
And made some notes on that

I turned and walked up a hill
Searching for a placid lake
Pulling myself along with
An unsuspecting snake

The view was quite inspiring
I jotted down some notes you see
Unseen the snake then left me
To write my poetry

I started walking to the top
But fell into a cave
I never saw the spider that
I brushed off with a wave

I felt my way along a wall
Hidden cave I did presume
And never saw the opening
To a pirate’s treasure room

When at last I did emerge
From dusty gloomy hole
I thought I would wax poetic
About a happy scholar mole

I sat down by a bubbling stream
Sad I’d no adventure to relate
I soaked my feet not knowing
I’d become piranha bait

But suddenly I had a thought
An epic poem I’d write
So I jumped up and took some notes
Till it was almost night

All day I’d searched high and low
Seeing nothing out of the norm
Then made my way back to the beach
My fellow poets I would inform

They sat upon the sand
In a circle ‘round Balladeer
Gasping for each breath
And shaking in such fear

“What’s going on?” I asked
Curiosity at this site
“You look as though you were on
the poor end of a fight”

They looked at me in disbelief
As I told my innocent tale
I found no beasts, no wildness
Upon my side of the trail

“No snakes or tigers?” They asked
Shock showing on each face
“Not a one!” I replied
“I think this a quiet place!”

Here’s a lesson, my shipwrecked friends
When in need of exploration
Don’t send out deVine as a scout
She’s got too much imagination
