Forest
June 15th, 2000
Copyright 2000 Doug Pretorius

I walk amongst the trees
this place of filtered light
falling gently through leaves
which fall too in their short flight
A soft and subtle glow
serves to stir all life
Out called from their burrows
Out called by its delight
Awoken slowly with blurry gaze
awakened slowly by solar rays
I pad delicately cross scaped land
that I may not disturb any sleeping hand
The glow does brighten for all to see
and life now stirs amongst the leaves
I settle to my spot
to see what I might see
As inconspicuous as a tiny dot
amidst the dance and revelry
On goes this dance
all day long
the march of ants
and blue bird song

The sun grows cool
its light gone dim
soon moonlight pools
will quiet forest's din
and I wait right here
in my secret hiding place
to see it disappear
the day's hurried pace

All is now silent
'cept a night-time defiant
Hush now, be still
like the flowers and the trees
but certain stir they will
in next morning's breeze

You have described what I have done many times. I think we both have the same secret spot
This is just lovely and comforting to read
Thanks for the stroll

Such a beautiful poem about nature and the tranquility and inspiration it presents. It makes me cry every time I see a tree cut down, for the forest only has so much we need for life, oxygen, food, and helps clean the air. I got such a beautiful picture in my mind as I read this of the Washington mountains. I love them so very much! Excellent work! You have such a beautiful heart, dear friend, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton
