From out of the fog and the darkness
And up from the shore and the sea,
A long line of Vikings came creeping,
To capture young maidens like me.

The village was peacefully sleeping.
We wakened to yelling and screams.
The women all ran for the forest,
But I saw the end of my dreams.

I'm taken and hustled off quickly
Till we reach the longboat and bay.
As captives, we're guarded and threatened.
The sail fills and takes us away.

Their homeland is far to the eastward.
The land there is barren and cold.
They tell me that I should feel honored.
Their leader is Thorgal, the Bold.

I know that my mother is calling.
My sisters are searching in vain.
My heart is so sad and near breaking,
For I'll never see them again.

Day three and there's nothing around us.
Just leagues of gray sea and the sky.
I leap from the side to the water
And utter a curse, as I die.

"May all of your longboats be leaky.
May all of your wives barren be.
May dragons pursue you forever.
You'll not make a slave out of me!"

BettyLou~
This is a marvelous portrayal of how it must have been for many ...
Such a sad part of the history books.

You've given it grace.

Joyce:  Thank you so much for your comments. I'm afraid you are giving me too much credit!
My head feels quite swollen at the moment!

Marge:  Thank you so much!  There are so many tragic chapters in world history.
