Into the high country, far above the tree line
I soar with the currents to see what I will find.
Never melting glacier creeps down the mountainside
In a frozen waterfall, pure and dazzling white.
Desolate tundra is not very nourishing
But brick, gold, and sage-hued lichen is flourishing.
Lizards flee from my shadow. The terror they feel
Is fear wasted, for I'm not in need of a meal.
The winds suddenly shift and so from the thin air
I cease my circling and quickly plummet to where
I pause for a brief break in a bristlecone pine
Stunted, twisted, and gnarled - a tree ancient as time
Soft feathered needles grow from bark russet brown.
For thousands of years, they've thrived on this rocky ground.
Flash of sun on burnished gold in a lapis sky
A golden eagle majestically passes by.
Spiraling ever homeward, my journey now takes
Me past white-barked green aspens and glistening lakes.
My piercing cry over a flowering meadow
Disturbs grazing elk - one responds with a bellow.
It's time for me to relieve my mate on our nest -
Chicks soon will be hatching and there'll be no more rest.

Oh, SuthernGal~
This is absolutely splendid in it's imagery.
What a wonderfully shared piece.
Graciously it soars ...

my oh my ...Ruthie girl...this is awesome imagery,
very clever writing me girlie...
wonderful use of vocabulary to paint us this vision with words...
the description of the tree is outstanding...
"bristlecone pine"  "bark russet brown"
and the "burnished gold lapis" sky line is its equal.
and a very cool and appropriate title.
Excellent inspire here poetess of rhyme divine.
You soar with this lovely creature you have penned in poetic tribute,
VERY COOL write ... very cool

It's such a clever innocence with which you show myself to me
As if you know how it feels to never be who you wanted to be

Ah, suthern girl, when you decide to spread those wings with pen in hand and glide it across the page in displays of imagery like this....you soar!

Janet Marie: Ahem... Left-handed with blonde moments? LOL. You're just a shameless bumper, dear lady... *G* But thank you for giving me the opportunity to comment on the beautiful pictures... I didn't get to see them until this morning, but they were worth waiting for... thank you!

Seymour: Thank you, kind artist... your compliments mean a lot to me. *S*

Lone Wolf: When I'd thought about glaciers, I'd always thought of the far north, not just the far UP *G*... so of course, I HAD to climb far enough to touch when I got this opportunity. *G* But it was well worth the effort... thank you for liking the frozen waterfall. *S*

Balladeer: I'm afraid there wasn't any decision to glide here... my pen was pushed! LOL. The punishment for non-compliance with this assignment was far too harsh to even contemplate not trying, but I was very much afraid I'd only flapped around. *G* Thank you so much for your reassurances. *S*
