I went back to the playground where
     we used to play
The swings were broken and the monkey
     bars were rusted beyond repair
That giant, thick oak that we thought
would live forever was cut down
Removed to make room for a brick fence
     built to keep children out
A new playground was on the other side
     created with brightly coloured plastic
It seemed fitting some how, now that we
build our lives on credit cards
New children build their lives on a foundation
     created by the smae thing
The sand box had been filled in with
cement to form a four-square court
I almost wished I had a rubber ball,
I used to love that game
The building next door that way played
dodge ball against is still there
But it wont be for long, for it's now covered
     with "condemed building" signs
I went back to the playground where
     we used to play
I wish you had been there with me
     to see what I saw
I went back to see children
     still learning to play together
See boys jumping off the swings, and
     girls crawling over monkey bars
I hoped to climb up that great big tree
to prove that joy can last
I yearned to laugh with kids going
down the slide, two at a time
To read new thoughts in the concreate
     tube where we always talked
I peered over that brick wall into the
     new world of youth
There was no lughter of children playing
No monkey bars at all existed
Children sat compliantly on the swings
     waiting to be pushed
There were no towering trees, nothing
had been left to grow long enough
The slide was too short for any trains
     and plastic doesn't listen
I went back to the playground where
     we used to play
And I realized how much we had lost
     by not returning earlier

memmories are photo albums in your heart.

shaking my head here..because I missed this one somewhere along the way.
Its too good to be at the bottom.
Enjoyed.

I will not bend to the cowardice of a silent judgement.
