Moved from a shack to a barn

Lisbeth greeted me at the door
“I’m so glad to see you,
I don’t know what to do”

“About what?”

“He’s killing himself again”

“Again?”

“You know how he’s always
committing suicide.”

“Ah Jeez, Lisbeth, suicide
is something you only do once.”
“Is he in the hospital?”

“He’s on the couch.”

“Still alive?”

“Think so.”

And there he was.
Almost Rock Star,
Almost famous,
Almost lucky,
Akimbo, on the couch.

Silly suicide note
Placed at the base
Of a beer can shrine.
Open, empty pill bottle
Placed for effect.

“How many?”

“I Don’t know.”

“Not enough, no doubt”
“Is the ambulance coming?”

“No”, she replied, meekly.

“Are you calling his bluff, Lisbeth?”

“I guess so, what should I do?”

“Well, he hasn’t committed suicide
because he isn’t committed to suicide.
He isn’t committed to his music
and he isn’t committed to you.”

“I know you’re right,
but, he’s always so sad.”

“And he’s gonna be irate
when he wakes up and sees
that he isn’t in a “psych” ward”

“So, whaddaya think I should DO?”

“I think we should go get a drink.”

(not saying that this was right, it simply...was)

In reply to "which way do we go?", the answer was never "straight", but, "progressively forward".

“Well, he hasn’t committed suicide
because he isn’t committed to suicide.
He isn’t committed to his music
and he isn’t committed to you.”

Excellent wording here dear wranx. I have one of these in my life too. A nuisance mostly. You did the right thing.
