I keep close to me an album
Filled with photographs of you
I relive my treasured memories
On the days when I'm feeling blue

They say that time will heal
And I guess that is partly true
But the pain never goes completely
It lurks deep inside of you

My grief sometimes overwhelms me
On the days when I'm feeling down
My mood becomes very sombre
As amidst my sorrow I begin to drown

Grief washes over you so quickly
With no warning does it give
As you struggle with your feelings
Desperately seeking for reasons to live

Your self worth becomes emaciated
As you become a shadow of your former being
Outside the sun may be shining
But there is no light that you are seeing

You try to fight the negatives
That invade your heart and soul
As you struggle to find happiness
Which you set as your ultimate goal

So here I sit amongst my memories
As I slowly turn each page
I cling tightly to your memory
Thoughts of you I will never erase

Oh, yes, did I enjoy this.

Not only was it wonderfully written,

how true it is!

How sad. I hope you find a new love soon.

Love the write.

Sue, what would we be like without those memories? Hang on to them and soon they will make you smile instead.

Nice poem.  Hope you feel better soon.

Thank you all for your replies.  This was actually written about my father who died of asbestos cancer.  It is true that the grief never really leaves you and creeps up on you every now and again.

Take care......Sue

Sue, I lost my Dad to cancer 4 years ago. It was a tough time for me but you do eventually smile when you think of them.

Hello Dee

I too lost my Dad to asbestos cancer nearly three years ago and I believe that it was during my grief that I started writing.  The love I have for my father is shown in my writing for I have written many poems about him, such as this one.

Take care......Sue
