I no longer know that woman I see
in the mirror, staring back at me
she’s not someone I would like to know
her eyes are shaded by a haunted glow

I ask her "who am I, if I'm not me"
she looks back, eyes empty
makeup on, hair done, time to go
the facade complete, everything just so.

Her friends never hear her sighs of regret
that is something they will never get
and they will never really see
the woman in the mirror, the real me

Well written Pd'V. But I think (though I know you only through the Passions) the real you far exceeds and needs no facades.

Thank you both. But can we really know someone from what they write?

Hi PDV,

I feel these words ...
And I do think you are right ... we can't ever tell if we really know someone even when we face them every day, mush less from what they write ...

Great poem.

Yes we can. BUT, only if they know themselves enough to write the truth, and only if they are genuinely spirited enough to reveal this truth in script. There are those who have the gift of understanding, even when someone attempts to hide. A few of us out here in this "News From Nowhere" world we live, have been made doormats by those who are purely what you wrote of yourself. You are self identifying, and coming to know.. makes you better than most. Great poem, and very appreciated insight.

I can relate to this..I find that this is a condition that periodically comes upon me when too many people begin to require too much of me..and I unable to think clearly where I truly need to have my priorties for myself and all concerned.. If that makes any sense. Anyway.. good reflective poem.
