where insanity meets breeding

Just waiting for the house to sell
To escape this God forsaken hell
What you call marriage I call jail
Love gone bitter, life gone stale
Decaying walls around my mind
Hide the rotting carcass of love behind
A wedding that never should have been
Was based on illusion and make believe
I thought you the one, but oh how wrong
How soon I discovered we didn’t belong
The trivial things that would make you uptight
Three days of silence, and then a big fight
You stood by and watched as my happiness faded
Replaced by disdain and outlook so jaded
Til finally I said that I wanted no more
You pled for mercy, said don’t shut the door
But it was too late, and I told you so
You were so helpless – you watched my heart go
You looked up and asked me if I hate you now
Much worse than that-I feel nothing somehow
Now live as room-mates and lead separate lives
You’ll never again hear me say I’m your wife
My love once it’s gone can’t be brought back again
It just left the station, it caught the last train
Next chapter of life now I see round the bend
This heart will be happy and this soul will mend
When the house is sold

If she who dies with the most toys wins, then can I have some toy boys please?

Thank you both for reading. It was one of those lousy days when I wrote it. In retrospect, I probably shouldn't have posted it. Maybe a little too much information. Oh well. Thank you both for your comments. EagleOne, wish it didn't sound familiar for you, I hope all ended up well in the end.

What do they say?  A change is as good as a holiday??  You are right, I have a very dear friend who went through what you are going through, and now she has a lovely new apartment and she is free and ever so happy!!
Hope the house sells quick for you!!!!!!

Hmmm...I know a real good REALTOR that could sell that house for you.
Seriously, this is a wonderfully written, emotion-provoking piece. What is a house when it stops being a home and becomes an empty shell?
Once again, this was simply terrific.

Don't care what people say
Just follow your own way
Don't give up and use the chance
To return to innocence.

Tracey, such a sad story. I know it will work out in the end. By the sound of that you deserve some happiness.

Wow.  Raw emotion can really be strong in poetry form.  Sometimes we go through hell and end up writing some the best stuff.  I guess if life was always wonderful for everyone there wouldn't be great poetry.

Isis-thanks, I hope the house sells quick too. I can almost taste my freedom and looking forward greatly too it

Sonjes-send that realtor over here!!!  . You're absolutely right about a house being an empty shell when it's not a home

Dee-thanks so much for the kind thoughts today

JT-you're right about the best poetry coming out of the worst times. Thanks for reading, and welcome to passions

And to all, just to let you know, I'm in a much better state of mind now, than when I wrote that piece. Thanks all of you for stopping by and leaving your thoughts

Ya know, I read this when you first posted.  I didn't respond then because my response would have been too intense.
But tonight...I've had more than my share of Rum and Coke.
Tonight, I will respond simply, I understand every word of this.

Tracey, I understand this jail. It's one I escaped from not so long ago. Two years, and I can still feel the unraveling, though it had to be, and never should have been.

Jeen, thank you. It seems many of us have been where I am now.

Duncan, I know exactly what you mean when you say you couldn't reply at first because it would have been too intense. I've done that myself when a poem has really touched my core. It's unfortunate for so many of us to understand these thoughts. Enjoy the rum and coke. I'm back to Ice Wine tonight

Ali, thank you and I'm sorry that you too can understand these feelings

Midnitesun, you have been where I am now and I'm glad for you that you escaped. I'm looking forward to my new life. I know I will be 1000 times happier.

It's been a long time in coming, but here it is...your GET OUT OF JAIL FREE card!  (Well, ok...it cost a little, deal with it, darlin!)
Now go dance on the furniture and enjoy your life.  It's finally yours, again.

What a write!  There is nothing worse than having been asked how you feel about someone and hate doesn't even come up, just "empty", boy do I know this one.  Let's hope that house goes fast, as I feel for you Tracey, I really do.
