Don’t Look Back

Even though the winds of love now blow cold
There will always be a part of me you’ll ever hold
The candlelight flickers but the flame is still there
Faint though it is it wouldn’t take long to flare
But there’s no going back down that path of pain
I’ll not be taking that direction, not ever again
If I don’t face the future then I can’t see my past
I’d be looking back to a love that couldn’t last

I’ll follow my heart and learn all my lessons well
I’ll look toward the future, not to my past souls hell

Even though the sparkle has gone from my eyes
There is still a place within me where hope cries
The feeling that I could fan these flames to fire
It wouldn’t be hard to get caught again by desire
But there’s no point in holding onto what’s dead
I’ll not be listening to hear what love hasn’t said
Because the only way is forward, never look back
Don’t put yourself on your past mistakes rack

I’ll follow my spirit but listen to my head this time
I’ll look to the future not confuse my hearts sign

Even though the taste of your kisses have left me
There is still a faint trace of their sweet honey
I wonder should I keep trying to taste them again
But I know that would only really lead to my pain
Although they were very sweet they were not free
Their price was my soul, too high a price for me
Because the only path to follow is the path ever on
Don’t try to go back to the place where love shone

I’ll follow my destiny but learn to hear my own voice
I’ll look to the future and I’ll make my own choice

There's a lot of good lines in this one, telling the ever-encouraging promise of moving on.

Marsha,
Very well written. Your poetry gets better and better.

"There will always be a part of me you’ll ever hold"

Respond to my call and let the waves of my heart fill your life with the wonders of love

but seriously love. . . this is wonderful. . . and you know that I love it. . . and that's not a biased opinion at all!!

Doreen love, thank you, but I don't know about inner strength, I do know that I don't want to walk down a road already travelled. Knowing that it ends in a ravine that is hazardous to my emotional health.
And remember if you need me just call.
Take care love

This was awesome, and since you're not entering that road won't you grab my hand and yank me back,  as some days (recently) I seem to be at the entrance to it?

Can I be your willful breeze,
Come to touch,
Your heart to ease?

This is one of my many favorites of yours sweetie...
I appreciated this read as it clearly defines
strength that one has gained from the blossoming of a love once shared...
Absolutely an inspiring read...

Temptress love, of course I will, for we've walked that path and we know where it leads, and that is not where we want to really be. It is so tempting to go back to think if I did this or I tried that things would be different. They won't be different love, they will be exactly the same. Giving love a chance is one thing throwing your heart onto the nasty sharp sword is another. And walking back down the road is asking for real trouble.
And if you need help hold onto my tail feathers and I'll help you come through.
Take care love
