  Promises

In hoary dimness
Loving lies waiting
Crisping with rime
Lingering glints like crystal
In this winter's day

Out a steamy window
against a naked tree
time has shed its lessons
they slumber in earthen cradles
sheltered by a promise

The love of earth
to Mother Nature
the love of robin
to song
to come, to come, a promise

Yet listening to the breath
that fastens life to earth
a song that winters not
is apt to skip away
away to find its meadow lark

Then lingering song will hang
in the cool crisp of morn
the robin's song
the meadowlark's song
bringing the promise of wakening

The sweet pea cracks the earth
pokes its tendrils into air
and greenly gamely climbs
into the sky dark cloud
up up into tomorrow

Purple lupine spiral up
cockscomb feathers forth
and in the sweet of Shasta daisy
one counts the ways to be loved
now, in the warmth of this day

Watch the storm tossed day
drain into the dry gulch
and hear the warble of lute
falling upon the parched stage
drinking the sky

ah, loving lies waiting
feeling the beat of earth
feeling the heat of mirth
as in lust the earth springs forth
as all promises are met

Against the sweetness of now
life empties and renews
and loving opens into blooming
and changing fills the minutes
of the winter's day

Martie, thank you SO much for the opportunity to pen a more "serious" piece with you...you know I enjoyed every "blip" back, and in ping-pong moments....it seems like we were finished....

whenever you're ready for another, so am I!

I hate to admit this - but ...
first of all - i admire your (both of you) poetry greatly
second - I cannot distinguise who wrote what (damm)
next time - one of you write in italics or something - please?
