Listening to every heart

Good Night Grand Child

O my sweet, grand child
how you've scampered
about this old skirt of mine
all this day ~
one moment
you are as still as a mouse, hiding

hanging on my apron

then you are as skitterish
as a long legged colt on a
sunny spring noon,
e'en tho 'tis but a long winter's day

and you have made me weary
by this 9th hour of the eve,
as the chimes toll,
and you slowly ready yourself
for this night of coming rest…

and I gaze on you
and see in you your parentage
and your heritage ~

my heart swells with my love
of you
and in a moment of
reflection, I take you up
in my heart and arms
to embrace you and
make you chortle one last
time before the candle
is extinguished

before your eyes close to
the coming of Sandman

before your breathing
comes softer and slower

before you frolic
in your dreams

Good Night, little one.

I love writings such as this.
When ever I can feel the love for a child expressed in ones writings it brings a warm feeling to my heart.
You`ve doen a great job with your wording and feelings here.
Thank You and God Bless.

Absolutely TERRIFIC!!!

This is so precious.  It made me think, and mourn a bit, the days of my daughter's childhood when I could easily take her in my arms and she would giggle from the tickles.

Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

Bless you and your grandchild.

Kari, you have managed to touch the other part of my heart, the part that is not obsessed with lost love.
Grandchildren are wonderful, aren't they? And they sure can exhaust you by 9PM, no doubt!
Love this

This is wonderful.. a truly touching poem... I have only one question.. Why is it that their energy increases as ours decreases??..

I'm glad this came back so I got to read it.  It sure rings true for me!    But I'd be glad to spend any number of nights exhausted just to have my grandson living near me again.

This is wonderful, Sunshine!!! I'll never be a grandma... but my little nephew is the grand child in my life. *S* He has me wrapped around his tiny fingers... and knows it! LOL
