Hang On
By: Noah Eaton
1/19/01

It was a quiet February evening, we were all watching a movie
We had Chinese carry-out, cuddled up together around the small silver screen
Everything was going well, we were all happy
Just a wonderful quality family time it was to be

My sister Ellie then said she was beginning to feel sick
Me and my mom asked her where, she said she felt pain in her stomach
At first I thought it was just a stomachache, but it was worse than I imagined
You see, she’s allergic to peanuts, and she accidentally swallowed one in the chicken sesame

My dad rushed to the phone and called for an ambulance
The doctor came by right in an instant
I began to get scared, I began to cry
As I held her close and looked into her sad blue eyes

Hang on
You’ll be better in no time
Hang on
Please don’t cry

She was delivered to Lutheran Medical Hospital down the road
She will be all and well in a few days we were told
I felt nervous, I was home alone
Being the man of the house inside from the freezing cold

Three days passed by, she was feeling worse and I got scared
A couple days turned into weeks, I got tangled in despair
I couldn’t focus on my schoolwork in this cloud of sorrow
Every tomorrow became today and on came the next tomorrow

Hang on
You’ll be feeling perfect soon
Hang on
Sweetness will replace this realm of black and blue

Her status was getting critical, and the doctors put her in a coma
I heard that, I couldn’t stop crying as I caught the melancholy malaria
I couldn’t take this anymore, I had to see her
See my little angel, hope to see her feel better

I went with my dad to see her in the hospital
She was in a deep sleep, her eyes slightly opened, she looked so cold
Soft lapis eyes, bloodshot with sleeplessness and fright
I burst in sadness, I was scared I had lost her, she had slipped from me, like a kite

I couldn’t stand to see her like this, I crouched down on my knees
Crying and crying to God to help her, to let me hear her breathe
Please stay strong, sweet angel, please don’t die
Please don’t tell me that this is goodbye

Hang on
Can you hear me say how much I love you so?
Hang on
Do something, just don’t go!
Hang on, sweetie
Please talk to me
Oh, please please hang on, sweetie
Please, please talk to me

(A few days later, she awakened from her coma, and she had recovered. She came home later that beautiful day, and I held her close, crying in joy, and we were so very happy. This poem is all about how miracles can happen if you believe in them, and to be faithful with yourself, and love and light overcomes all!)

Noah~
What a blessing !
Love and prayer and faith work miracles when used together.
Beautiful ending, love.

That one gave me goosebumps.  *shivers*  Very haunting write, very beautiful, and very miraculous.

I am happy it all turned out wonderful for you. I wish I had that overwhelming happiness you felt at the end of that massage of a miracle. Truly wonderful!!!

Where there is the belief in miracles there are sure to be some found.  Love in itself is a miracle and the power of it can overcome much.  Wonderful read this was.  I do enjoy your pen and your way of expression.

I'm with PoeticEnchantress--this gave me the chills as well!  Great story, but better yet, great ending!  Nicely done, Noah!
