I try to keep a sense of humor about my loneliness,
to laugh at the fork scraping the plate
like a clanging bell after saturday's rain.
I grip the edges of hopes like desk legs
and wonder if this quake will stop
or shake my house to pieces.
I make my friends smile so I'll smile;
I listen to music like a blanket by a window without weatherstripping.
I try not to think of things like "I never wanted to he her first; just her last."

Then I laugh.
How light I feel.
Or so I want to so much want to want to believe.

You know, I have a very good friend who behaves the same way. Sometimes I used to get frustrated with him because I thought he needed to confront things instead of hiding behind humor. Recently he did peep out a bit, and I realize outwardly he was laughing, but inwardly, he was dealing with it. So, I guess I come to think that laughing is okay as long as a part of you is truly dealing with things.

This is a sad poem, but very well stated.

Can I be your willful breeze,
Come to touch,
Your heart to ease?

I try to keep a sense of humor about my loneliness,
=====================
I make my friends smile so I'll smile;
I listen to music like a blanket by a window without weatherstripping.
I try not to think of things like "I never wanted to he her first; just her last."

Then I laugh.
How light I feel.

================

when you write like this...so emotionally honest ...
its lets all else who feel the same way ..
know its OK to feel it ...express it ... and still believe.
thats why I read you, even when I dont always know what to say.
but then you just know.

When to the sessions of sweet silent thought,
I summon up remembrance of things past ...
I sigh the lack of many a thing I sought.
~Shakespeare~
