Betwixt and between the flames and water
Exists a place where souls can be bartered
Anoint with incense and candles burning
Take the guilt from the forever yearning
Perform the rituals of salvation
Speak to me through mystic incantation
Paint me in false golden idolatry
Come and genuflect upon one bent knee
And give offerings of innocent’s blood
In building me up for the better good
Let me cast away the demons of night
Spellbound as they gaze once into thy light
Weave about me a darkened tapestry
Crowned by its token insincerity
Hallow my footsteps with thy bated breath
Await my return from eternal death
With your whispered words I am deified
But upon the truth I am crucified

(Added 4 lines I just had to)

Wow....sounds like a hard one to let go of.  Not all we do in life is as we would have prefered to do it but I believe it all happens for a reason.

I may have read this wrong so just in case I am saving it and plan on re-reading it many times over.  Excellent penning.

this hits me on many levels.  physical and spiritual.  i think i can identify with some of it, yet hold my tongue for verification of subject matter.

all in all, though, this is a great piece!
