It's hard to write in metaphors,
When dealt an accountant's brain;
Confronted with everything in rows,
That must always come out even.

For thirty years with head bowed low,
I struggled with large numbers;
Not knowing that deep within somewhere,
A burgeoning poet slumbers.

I loved my job in radio;
Where I worked with some great talents
And among those inflated egos,
I needed to keep my balance.

Five days a week I sat there
With music all surround;
Searching for numerical errors,
While real life swirled around.

At last retirement sets me free.
My new life will begin.
I'll have time to become acquainted
With that latent Muse within.

Alas, I have found this forum
With talent so unfaulted;
While I write in ordinary words,
That can never be called exalted.

It took thirty years to break the chains,
That so restrict the clever.
Is it too late? Am I now doomed
To be a poet never?

It's with your help, I hope to bloom,
And blossom with elation.
Away, away, exactitude.
Just give me inspiration.

Ah, Brava! I think she's got it! Indeed she does! And you used one of my most favored words...."within"....

it entails SO much!

Nay, never say "never" when speaking a poet be. Charming, and I prefer plain language that gives me a snapshot of a moment in time. Well done.

Thanks to you dear fellow poets. Julian you are from my state. I am at home here in the Skagit Valley. I hope you're coming up to the tulip festival. Joyce

Joyce,

"...away, away exactitude, just give me inspiration." WONDERFUL! I need to remember that. A special read.
