ONCE REMOVED

Can you feel it?

The slashes under the tree...
The open wounds exposed to the sun...
Little boys taken from their fathers...
Little girls taken from their moms...

Time heals all wounds...
And washes away all the pain...
The stories never go away...
And history will never change...

Can you feel it?

The stares of meancing eyes
During the casual contact of today...
Can you sense an unappreciative thank you...
In the palm of a sweaty handshake...

Built up by the blood of others...
This stolen native land...
Who's progressed from the sweat & tears of others...
Who's profitted from this sin...

Can one forgive and forget...
And turn the other cheek...
For those who have no regret...
For those who've mistreated the meek...

Some have surpassed one man's dream...
In their quest for equality...
But many of the masses are still behind...
Struggling to survive in poverty...

And for those left behind...
There's no change...
For them, the slashes still hurt...
For them, those wounds still a source of pain...

CAN YOU FEEL IT?

No, time doesn't heal all wound and wash the pain away and this only makes them bleed more.

GGRN~
A poignant, effective render.

One can 'forgive'
but never 'forget'
And one learns quickly
NOT to 'turn the other cheek'.

Thank you for sharing.

Thank you for your response. I wasn't trying to throw salt in any wounds, just maybe to open a few eyes and make some people think little.

Kathleen
You say that "time doesn't heal all wounds and doesn't wash the pain away," and I agree with you to a certain extent. I use a cliche to explain. They say "A woman may forgive, but she will never forget." Well I think this applies here. People can forgive, but they will never forget. It's not good to carry around hostility and hate.
Thanks for your response.

Marge
It's always a pleasure to see you drop by. Turn the other cheek, I would never do such a thing. As a matter of fact, I'm always looking over my shoulder.
Thanks for your response.

SEA
Thought provoking and intense. Just the way I wanted to come across.
Thank you for your response.

Its not so wrong to turn the other cheek...but there is another little cliche that works here as well...fool me once shame on you...fool me twice shame on me...and I dont believe all things can be forgiven nor should they be forgotten...its how we learn...too bad we cant all learn.

It is too bad that we cant all learn, but some of us choose to live in the past, and if they do, they are bound to make the same mistakes.

My fellow Georgian; you say you like controversy. I'm going to challenge you to stir up some of your own. Let's see what you come up with. I will email you with my challenge.

"Can one forgive and forget...
And turn the other cheek...
For those who have no regret...
For those who've mistreated the meek..."

You've written a wonderful poem. It's hard to forgive and forget, and it's hard to keep giving chances, but one day we will all be happy again.
