Lay me down on sunbaked grass
While cotton candy clouds drift past
To hear the wings of a dragonfly
As I dream under a summer sky.

Set my feet in a crystal creek
The tiny fishes my toes to seek
Thousands of rainbows with each joyful slpash
As sun caught droplets sparkle and flash.

Fill me with a fresh summer wind
The kind that sets kites soaring again
And carries the scent of roses and rain
And soothes that first sunburn pain.

Set me in summer
What more can I ask?
Except maybe a playmate
You up for the task?

Lay me down on sunbaked grass
To watch cotton candy clouds drift past
To hear the wings of a dragonfly
As I dream here under a summer sky.

What a familiar image you are drawing here. As a youngster in a small town in Illinois, this is exactly one of the things I would do. I loved going to the movies or playing with friends but I was just as content exploring and daydreaming in a creature-filled field of grass. I was never bored in Mother Nature's arms.

I'm both happy and flattered that my poem inspired you to write "Summer Dreaming". That's one reason I really love PIP....the inspiration we all can provide to each other either through our poetry, challenges or words of encouragement is such a great benefit.

Nice writing and imagery, Paula.

Thanks
Packratmike

Paula this is so beautiful...what wonderful word pictures....flowing and dreamy smooth. This is so full of the love for life...one of your best yet...I read it several times and I just love the atmosphere of this poem!!

Wonderful imagery.
I like the coquettish question at the end.
Great!

Maybe I'll try reading the happy ones today. But...I'll have to let you know about that butterfly. Right now, I might just swat the poor thing out of reflex. Ha!
