Humankind

by Michael Auguste

Now everyone has longed in vain
while wishing there be more,
and all have known some kind of pain.
Some lives an open sore

So similar in ways that count.
All humankind is one.
We all fear for the end of life,
seek peace, a little fun.

In darkness when the shadows move,
it makes our blood run cold.
While in the brightness of the day,
we feel so very bold.

The color of the human race
Is difficult to find.
Perhaps because it really is
a simple state of mind.

We smile when we hear laughter ring
from children's hearts, so pure.
Have done so many foolish things
and with regrets, endure.

We've felt the passion blush our cheeks
in anger and in lust,
but love is what we all want most,
though find it hard to trust.

Reach out and take a stranger's hand.
It's so much like your own,
and touch the face of humankind.
You'll find you're not alone.

Auguste
This was a touching poem. I liked it very much. I wrote something similar once, but I believe you've penned what I really wanted to say and the world to see.
Excellent write.

Michael--There is much wisdom in your poetry...

my favorite stanza:

The color of the human race
Is difficult to find.
Perhaps because it really is
a simple state of mind.

Well written, sums up all our emotions.

A quarter of a century must pass, for the writer to understand what and why he writes.
