The following is a reflection on the subbing day that prompted the poem, "Please..." written 2/16/01, even though I put the wrong date on each. I'll fix this one to the right date. ;o} together proving they ...

Frazzled Dazzle
Virginia Salter

they frazzled my dazzle
and pooped my pop
their antics were disconcerting
they just wouldn’t stop

all my energy focused
on surviving the day
I only remained
to earn of my pay

that’s no way to be
that’s no way to play
I want to do right
and give honor each day

the hairs on my head
grew thinner and thinner
I wondered if fate
would get me to dinner

modifying behavior
is how I set out
yet stronger were they
in thwarting my clout

the classroom from hell
save a tiny soul or two
I only can sympathize
you in your living zoo

Omigosh I knew this was about your work when I got to the third or so verse! Shish and I thought that I had a tough job...you must have the patience of a saint. Hope that the rest of the year is much calmer.

as a sub-teacher, I really don't have to go back in to a class that threatens my sanity, I certainly feel for the teacher that has to remain there all year

however, economically, right now I have felt compelled to say 'yes, I'll go' back into a den of lions, as long as they're little lions, more than I would have if there were other options, or the need not so great

that last line is my heartfelt remark for the regular teacher of that class

i came to read as promised...

hang in there...i believe the job of a teacher is a noble one...i think i have heard of a saying that goes something like this:it takes ten years for a tree to prosper but it takes a hundred years for a person to be moulded...

nice rant
