I'm getting kinda weary
And I'm getting kinda psyched
I wish somehow I could escape
For tonight it's open mic

I have my poems in hand
And strapped on ukulele
Some cymbals and a fast drum beat
I come and listen daily

The groovy cats sit back
They can smell it in the air
One more poet with round glasses
Has come with heart to bear

They introduce me
As a soul
Who likes to
Rock n' Roll
They say I must be heard
Hang on to every word

So through the smoke
I weave
A fleeting thought
To leave
But the fingers of the suede blue
Atmosphere,
Sway my fear

All eyes are on me now
I must climb the stage somehow
And read my poetry
If not for them, for me

Two by two
I take the stares
What if I read
And no one cares

There she is…
She will be the one I read to
Her warm inviting lips are smiling

…she will be my northern star

You just gave away a stage secret!!! "When in doubt, focus on a smiling face!!" Great write, and I'm glad to know other stage hounds get stage fright, too!!

That fright that gives away to passion lives in the heart of the way out Walts that speak with precious words. Walts that speak easy with truth assembled in the caverns of the mind, always battling the heart always battling the soul....wonderful write Walt!

When I saw the title, I just had to jump in Walt...I also have stage fright too but, somehow I manage to project my voice throughout the room despite my nervousness.....I guess I just do it and have no care or regrets....anyways, I loved the poem....it's brilliant...I was going to write me an open mic poem but, I keep starting and then stopping but, your poem has inspired me to try harder....thanks for sharing...peace!

WOO HOO!!!

Walt, why am I not surprised??? Glad to see that there's plenty of us "brave souls" that can get up and read in front of people. . .

I get plenty nervous too!! Maybe I need a drummer!!!!
