Beware the Game

It's only a game, I tried to tell him
Just about 6 months ago
To give up me for someone younger
Pretty or not, it's all a show.

She pulled and tugged and reached the core of
All that was, within his soul.
No matter how I tried to reach him
Her agenda, divided our whole.

Pleaded begged, embarrassed myself
Many times, for many reasons.
Now my words come back to taunt him,
she only needed him, for a season.

He returned last night, not crawling
A valentine's ruin, holiday.
To him with sadness, shown in eyes
He's lost another, on this day.

This midlife crisis that he is in,
I almost wish to ask him why.
Why did he think her worth a marriage
Only now to sit and cry...

Sympathy is in my heart
and touched him, shouldered, with only sighs
But tears from me will be held back
He'll not be seeing, nor hearing cries....

Beware all others, lovings more than
Sex and lusting in it's call.
It's growth and caring, sharing problems,
Working together to solve them all.

So what to do, for him, who's lonely
Saddened face like puppy lost.
He's in the barn now, room set up nice
He paid for it, and at what cost.....

~Wynter

Forgive my faulty memory right now...it's late, and it's been late since yesterday...but? this reminds me of the myth/fable...of the dog? who had a bone in his mouth, and stopped at the pond to drink...
and seeing his own reflection, bone in mouth, decided that THAT one looked better, and went after that one instead...thereby losing his own...NOW SOMEBODY PLEASE...CORRECT ME...sigh...but anyway? the principle is there. HUGS lovely one.

Your strength and compassion show in this poem. Some men don't learn....the barn is too good for him!

Keep your chin up for if he has cheated on you once, he will do it again (of course, always your fault). Infadelity is a very hurtful thing - one that is not forgotten easily. Many Hugs!

Great write, wynter! Sheesh...I hope he knows how lucky he is!! He's got quite a woman, giving him that chance again...albeit in the doghouse!

He doesn't have that chance..only a chance to be on the property to live for now...since she chose to go back to her younger lover (more money..she couldn't touch ours yet and she isn't a patient person *)..I don't give a second chance after 30 years of dedication and an outright flaunting of an affair in a small town..he can have all the "other women" he wants now...I no longer can respect him. But thank you for reading...snowpants...

Wynter, It's a good thing you are feeling compassionate, so I'm sending you the tissues special delivery wrapped in hugs. Just remember tough love hurts but is worth it in the end.

A box of tissues
