have I embraced                                                The Darkness?

have I embraced                                   The Darkness
    as something wonderful
something that hides yet shows all?

have I embraced                      The Darkness
    as something treasured
    something waiting to be discovered?

have I embraced        The Darkness
    as something warm
    something that covers the harm?

I have embraced The Darkness
    as all these things
not as something to be feared
            but as something beautiful
something that begs a second look

and in the beauty of The Darkness
I have found peace

in the arms of The Darkness
I have found comfort

in the eyes of The Darkness
I have found myself

and in the heart of The Darkness
I have found love. . .

You should never fear the dark . . . for out of dark comes light . . . always . . .

Poetry should surprise by fine excess...it should strike the reader as a wording of his own highest thoughts and appear almost a remembrance. -J.Keats

Can't remember the exact phrase, but someone replied to a long-ago poem of mine with words to the effect of, 'Light needs dark too, one can't survive without the other.' Thought that fit here.

Sven,
without darkness, there is no light
there's no break of day without the night.
Loved this poem! and having been a student and lover of darkness I can relate to this one as well!
