Listening to every heart

Just a Summer Day

sandy lanes
gone a'traveling
with some friends
had a lunch
bed & breakfast
serving brunch
come and get us…

take a ride
and there hidden in
a Kansas landscape
a lake within
circle it, then circle
again
get on out
and stretch the limbs

big old Lab, dark and
black
friendly old pup,
looking at
us to play, to throw
a stick
he'll do the running
mighty quick

took a chance
his tongue was lolling
threw a stick
he went running
the day was warm
the lake looked cool
the dog, oh he
was no one's fool

brought the stick
on back to me…
threw it hard
long past the trees
rippled blue water
caught the stick
the dog thought
"she catches on quick!"

splash and water was
everywhere
the dog dove in
with no cares
the Kansas sun
beamed on down
back to us he ran
his stick the crown!

"Play again! Play again!"
his tail waved in glee
as he brought
his treasure to me!
he shook and shivered
he spread the wet
got me as liquid
as liquid could get!

but when one sees
a dog's smiling smile
it makes a throw in a summer's
day worthwhile….

and we did it
again…

Kari dear heart, this was such a picturesque write from you. Absoulutely enchanting, utterly wonderful and really really good. (Is that thoughtful honesty? Yes it is!) Praise is due to you. I really love this, and it's a keeper.
Excellant perfect piece

This resurrects memories of my two grizzly bears I used to own. (Newfoundland dogs)
I've had many memories of those dogs...
thank you for helping me find a few....
