Sun Ride

Just another crystal day
in sparking southern climes,
like every prior summer spent
in search of perfect times.

Two teenaged girls on rusty bikes
begin their coastal journey,
in the pink seashell dawn,
they take flight to the sea.

Pacific Beach, where seedy sorts -
wake from sandy sleep,
their days spent pandering
for beer, on the beach.

The girls head to the waterline,
walk along the soft shore,
therein lies the character,
soaking in the ocean’s lore.

Heading north to Bird Rock,
down rocky cliffs they climb,
to poke about the tidepools,
they slip on lichen slime.

Startled crabs click,
side-slip into clefts;
sea anemones’ sway lures
in an almost feminine theft.

Pedaling to Wind ‘N Sea,
to watch golden boys surf,
two girls passing through
local, private turf.

Next, on to Marine Street,
where all the kids hang out,
to put in an appearance
along their northern route.

The last stop, Encinitas,
a warm town to embrace,
with backs flat on the sand
as sun and ocean race.

I love the stories that you weave...

Gentle beautiful memories this brings back. Not necessarily of these exact things you speak of, but of childhood and its curiosities.   Hope I make sense! Love this!

Wow, what a journey you took us on. A descriptive roller coaster indeed! Thanks a lot for sharing these images!

For reasons I can't fully explain - This called to my mind a Carly Simon song from her 'Coming around again' album= 'bout two 'chicks' out for the night.
No way is it fully applicable - but to this male - both make be smile

Corinne, you always take me to places i've never been. Every poem is like an adventure date.
So was this about you.
