The Intensity

Intensity hovers over
this stricken shell of you
a dagger sharp
thrust oh I can hear you bleed
each cell a scream
that grips me to my place
on the flannel my heart
would cover

and when I touch your skin
it is parchment
and crackles like my soft finger
is fire in the wound of you

How spare life this rugged end
and why must pain be last
like a house so strong and sure
you are covered with gasoline
and who has the match
to end the suffering of your scared walls
the cellar drags me down
and I can hear screaming
screaming so soft
that it blurs my questions
for I want to ask you
if you can see the other side
where the sunset melts

and yet your frailty
cannot reach me with miracles
and only down down I go
into the black pit that holds my heart
waiting for your sweet release

Martie, my gosh girl, where did this come from? Certainly not that smiling face that graces our blue walls...

you titled this one quite appropriately, for intense, my dear, it is!

Somehow, tho, I know what you say, but that is not surprising, is it....

Martie~

'for I want to ask you
if you can see the other side
where the sunset melts'

Walking-the-fire with another
is an act of love and kindness~
And when the sunset melts
there will be found peace~
eternal eternal ...

Please don't take this the wrong way.  I sensed this was exactly as you told ME.  That someone very close and important to you was dying.  Now, this is the tricky part, not that I would wish anyone pain and anguish, but I truly hoped that was the case.  Rather, dear, than for it to be a deep dark plot of revenge.  The reader can feel that, too.  That's what brings the shivers and the hope for a peace within you that will halt this going further.

Well done in the intent of 'intensity'!

Friends--especially VAS ...my heart was full and I let it overflow in this poem...wishing my friend release from her pain...is a natural thing I think...no evil intent here...just powerful feelings.  Thank you all for your sweet sincere replies...I appreciate your kindness and your hugs.

what an amazing ability you have to allow others to see within your heart and soul.  It is indeed difficult in seeing the suffering  ones for whom we love and care must endure.  Take care my friend.

Like the empath in Startrek (original TV series) you seem to attract those in fragile terminal pain - for the best reason I know - Love - unstinting, undemanding total giving  - that you can - without showing the effects - Convinces me that perhaps it is a God-given gift - whatever the reason - I'm grateful you can express yourself poetically so with such force and beauty, and believe God hears prayers.
