My Grandmother's Room

The fragrance of roses
wafts through the room -
dried petals on a polished table.

Old family photographs,
bronzed by the sun,
smile up from the petals like topaz.

Late afternoon light
sifts through lace curtains -
crochets patterns on the wall.

love-faded quilts
lie folded and stacked
like cordwood in her cedar chest.

In three careful rows
her books line the sheves -
a lifetime of gathered wisdom.

Like her body in death,
these sins in her room
say she was here, but is gone.

Got to love those grandmas they are so much a part of the wonderful gifts of life...I remember mine bought me a bicycle when I graduated from grade three..and oh, how I loved that bike it was my pride and joy... I love this tribute to your grandmother...I love the way you've written it...like she is still there......great!    ethome

Beautiful Beki! This reads like a sepia toned photograph.

I always keep an eye out for your work,it's always so naturalistic, never contrived.Another beautiful piece.

Beki~
You sure stirred some nostalgic memories here.
I can take myself back to my great grandmother's room in a heartbeat.
Thank you so much for this lovely gift.
