Listening to every heart

Cleansing Day

oddly, today is the day
I shall clean
~ my mental house ~
~ my feeling heart ~
~ my memory banks ~

in my mental house
truth and realization
beckon me to
white dreams
and to lay aside
the black of being sorry
and sorrows of what
happenings weren't to
happen, and what
was not to be

do not set aside
just one day to atone
for the sins of wants
and needs and desires…

you know the ones I mean…
the ones you shouldn't take
that don't belong to you

instead

go toward the bluish light
of white, that which you
can aspire to, in grace
and ritual and aspiration
of right…

should a hand reach out
to take mine…in comfort or
in company…(whether it's giving
or receiving)
it is ok to accept it
for the moment
to remember to give it
back to those
who own it

my feeling heart
has lent itself to maligning times
and propitious twinklings ~
breaking (hearts break) only as
brakes were applied to
moments of rejection and
fallacies, over good gone bad
and bad just going gone

and I have gained
in the losses and expedited
rejection toward better
moments, where my heart
could mend then wend its
way toward others in an
effort to walk them
through this hall of quaking
(hearts quake)
just so we could get to
the other side…
and I have traveled it alone
many a time…
so why does trepidation make
my heart beat (hearts beat) faster
even when I know
I need not fear fear…

now to dust away the cobs and
webs from my memory banks…
oh sometime so leaden
with memories until
a key unlatches just the right
bank
and gold spills forth
in memories and sounds
and smells and feels
and that rush of
life…

so this is the most
precious of the cleaning, that
which to discard, which to keep
and like old magnetic tapes that
are bent and LP's that have
a scratch,

I examine each and every
one that comes to the surface
with this cleaning
just to make sure
there is no hope
for resurrecting
any of that particular memory…

ah but those that make me feel
so good…
those I keep in soft folds of
comfort and warmth

I keep them in smells of Old Spice
and Canoe, Tabu and Chanel…
and baking bread on a Monday
morning
I keep them wrapped in rays
of golden sunlight playing halos
in a child's hair,
I keep them in your
wide open eyes,
with butterflies laughter
carrying them away to the safest
memory bank I have…

and for safekeeping, I polish
the key with some spit and shine
and place it safely in my heart till
needed next,
then write myself a note
and place THAT in my mental house

so that I might find it from time to
time,
(Reminder to KJ - clean house)
so that whenever
anything other than
a cleaning is required,
like a friend who needs me,
then I might find
and share these moments

with you
in a clean house.

I would rather be silent and write, than speak loudly and be bound.

Oh Karilea--I just love this...I even wrote a similar poem some years ago called Housecleaning..but I didn't write it nearly as well as you have here.  Shine on!

Kari, another amazing write from you. I can barely pick out a favorite part, but this one stanza hit me the hardest.. (you won't be surprised)

"my feeling heart
has lent itself to maligning times
and propitious twinklings ~
breaking (hearts break) only as
brakes were applied to
moments of rejection and
fallacies, over good gone bad
and bad just going gone"

You are such a deep thinking, talented woman, I wonder how anyone could have ever broken your heart..

But then, without the breaks, we wouldn't appreciate the rest, so they say anyway.

Loved this LOTS

Sandra

Karilea~
What a sparkling gem you have written here.
It is Top-Of-The-Charts on the jukebox I keep of you !

'and I have gained
in the losses and expedited
rejection toward better
moments, where my heart
could mend then wend its
way toward others in an
effort to walk them
through this hall of quaking'

*Hugs*, my friend for this has written itself on my heart.

Cat...someday perhaps....I'll be the female counterpart to Rod McKuen, y'think? I'm so glad you found something in this to like separate from the rest...and I do so appreciate your comments...

Marge...you can keep me on your jukebox anytime....it just tickles me so much that a lady of your calibre in writing would read mine so often!  Hugs to you...thank you for everything....

Kari love, do you need me to tell you this is superb, well you might not need me to tell you, but it's true nevertheless. Absolutely first rate love. I really love this concept, a mental house clean, absolutely brilliant love.
And such a wonderful piece from you as always. 'Viva La Belle Sol'
Take care
