Edelweiss  ...flower of purity

What rare and noble means to gain success,
are fetching lures and fascinating spells,
and precious charms we all at birth possess
with outstretched arms that all delight compels.

But in our youth we learn survival ways,
when taught by some who fear the world they face,
    when parents overly or under-praise,
when trusted models do not lose with grace,

When peers and siblings fight in grand charade,
'til in reaction, ...all that native charm,
that gift that could so easily persuade
is buried deep protecting it from harm.

We play the game and pay a thousand price,
...or grow to rediscover Edelweiss.

I know when I first heard Edelweiss so many decades ago...the delicacy of the song alone makes one strive to be soft and pure...and strong and everlasting...

Stan, thank you for this, and thank you for provoking a memory!

And thank you for bringing some "Sunshine" into my day.  I love this little poem. It's another case where I gripped the muse and forced her to give it up.

You gripped your muse!?  Ah, that is the sound that led me to this!  Now, release her...and share her...for she did you quite well by this one!

Karilea!  New to meetcha!

Thank you nice person.  I have read some of your poems such as "the envelope" and I think you get your share of time at the Muse's nipple.  (oops, was that naughty?)

Your reference to the song made me think.
Mark B had some good guitar music background on one of his poems.  I would like to learn how that is done and have the song Edelweiss be in the background for this poem. Thanks for the idea.

This is outstanding poetry. Bravo!!

Shades of "Sound of Music" and everything else.  The form and stucture did me proud.
Congratulations on a great sonnet!< !signature-->

Karen, Thanks for the "Sympatico"

Nate, Glad to meet you.  Thanks.  Try the sonnet. The template makes you think and challenges you to put things well.

Rose, From you, that's a high compliment!  Thanks.
