Why?
Virginia Salter

I wanted to cry for you
but my tears were naught but ashes

I wanted to sing of you
but you gave me fifty lashes

I wanted to spend the night praying
but my mind was filled with woe

Why did you have to leave
tell me why did you go?

i appreciated this short intense read...sometimes when you are in pain, you certainly dont feel like writing much and this poem reflects that feeling

Thanks, both of you.  I do have to admit this is not autobiographical.  I did lose in a relationship many years ago, but these remarks are purely conjured.  Think I've felt a semblance of the feelings, though.

Glad to know that you are not going through this right now.  Very powerful write from you and the anquish is quite visibal.  Well done in showing the emotions.
