A wintry river
of miserable gray
flows between frozen banks
behind my house
I stand at the edge
watching as ducks float by
bobbing on feathered bottoms
surrounded by ice chunks
Drifting off to nowhere
silhouetted only by
barren orchard trees
and me…
I touch the waters
with my boot
submerging my toe
in the icy current
My flesh dimples
as I watch the ducks
disappear around the bend
and I long to be with them
Skimming along frozen stones
A nonentity
veiled by icy waters
unburdened by life
I want to relinquish
my place and become lost
within swirling currents
interlaced with tiny bubbles
and poignant shadows
I want to float here and feel nothing
I want to flow endlessly..

< !signature-->

I love the time
and in between
the calm inside me
in the space
where I can breathe...

Sarah McLachlan

before I float, I need to fly...this is lovely, took me right to my pasture in this chill winter evening...saw the whole thing, but want to see it again tomorrow...

BTW...I like your nickname...

Breathe~

Please tell me how if you figure it out.  Sounds wonderful . . . floating free . . .

I want to float here and feel nothing
I want to flow endlessly..

I know this desire well, if you ever manage to flow endlessly could you tell me how, or at least give me a hint. REally enjoyed the poem, well written, wonderful images.

"I want to relinquish

within swirling currents
interlaced with tiny bubbles

I want to float here and feel nothing
I want to flow endlessly.."  --what an absolutely perfect and fabulous ending...a powerful, somewhat sad piece of work, I really enjoyed it!
