Cast your shadow on a cardboard wall,
Open the door and watch it fall,
The world's held in place by unspoken lies,
The truth hidden behind every person's eyes.

Where real and unreal converge, you will find,
A universe inside every human mind,
Waging the war between hope and fear,
Ignoring what it doesn't wish to hear.

So ensues the silent play,
Muting the words that, in truth, we say,
For the truth may not fit our own desires,
And so we live in dreams as liars.

It's so hard to tell what is and isn't real,
For we project onto others the emotions we feel,
So little we know and truly understand,
Our security built on shifting sands.

But what of those who see through the illusion,
And find their way through the mists of confusion?
Are they happy to see life with all its scars,
To see people as they really are?

Heaven or hell, I just cannot say,
So let us dream for another day,
This is the secret that you must keep,
The demon that must be left to sleep.

'Humankind cannot bear too much reality' T.S.Eliot

man on man...have you nailed my thoughts of late...
this is a very very cool poem Tony...
much wisdom and truth here, all dressed up in your perfect cadence and rhyme ...
very well written and conceived
your pen runs deep poet sir.
brought to mind an old fav song of mine...

Fountain of Sorrow(excerpt)
Jackson Browne

Now the things that I remember seem so distant, so small
Though it hasn't really been that long a time
What I was seeing wasn't what was happening at all
Although for awhile, our path did seem to climb

When you see through love's illusions, there lies the danger
And your perfect lover just looks like a perfect fool
So you go running off in search of a perfect stranger
While the loneliness seems to spring from your life
Like a fountain from a pool

Now for you and me it made not be that hard to reach our dreams
But that magic feeling never seems to last
And while the future's there for anyone to change
Still you know it's seems
It would be easier sometimes to change the past

I'm just one or two years and a couple of changes behind you
In my lessons at love's pain and heartache school
Where if you feel too free and you need something to remind you
Theres this loneliness springing up from your life
Like a fountain from a pool

Some people find subtlety in strangers
if you find anything~let me in
Your eyes~you see everything
my eyes~I see it all together now~and I know

Tony~ Love this..........

"But what of those who see through the illusion,
And find their way through the mists of confusion?
Are they happy to see life with all its scars,
To see people as they really are?"

I wouldn't want it any other way, tell me the truth, or don't talk to me.........
