Daisy Meadows

I loved the meadow view behind our home
Bound by pasture land and edged with wood
The children often went there just to roam
And picked as many daisies as they could

I miss those daisy days such pleasures yield
When from the porch I saw their little heads
Bobbing up and down the summer field
And screaming with delight on winter sleds

I miss the window sill adorned with flowers
Picked by loving fingers of a child
The memories still hold the ageless powers
Of daisy meadow’s beauty soft and wild

Today I see the children do the same
They pull “he loves me nots” from daisy’s eye
A different place and time, another name
Just as I used to do in days gone by

And so the daisy chain continues on
In reminisce of days I left behind
Two lovers in the fields of green have gone
Into the daisy meadows of my mind

Elizabeth Santos

Elizabeth, my friend~

Delightful images of nostalgic memories.
Take a look at this little garden of daisies

Absolutely exquisite!!!  I miss those daisy chains so very much.  In the town where I live now, they don't grow.  Recently, on Whidbey Island, while visiting lighthouses, there were daisies growing profusely.  I'm so sorry I didn't give in to the desire to make a daisy chain right then and there.

Isn't it amazing how we can read some one else's memories and it evokes so many of our own. Childhood memories are the best. Thank you for that, Elizabeth.

I've always been a gardener... and when moma died in '97 I fenced a little place and set a sign and a Bible verse there for her and it is still a reminder to me and ever shall be...

At least you have those daisy meadows in your mind to draw upon and cherish. This is a beautiful nostalgic write Elizabeth. I always go on such a pleasant trip through different passages of time when I read your work. I got the visions working clear on this one ...it's a precious grasp on the gifts of childhood and beyond......ethome

Reading your works has always allowed me the visions of natures and God's graces on us and this one is no different.  I could almost feel the crisp clean air around me and the beautiful scents of spring filling the air.  Beautiful as always my friend.   I always love treating myself to one of yours.

Liz - This is a beautiful poem.  I have one minor suggestion - A sweet verse about kitties scampering about and a pirate stumping along after them would be just wonderful, dontcha think?  *melancholy eyes*

Thank you for your kind responses. I just got my computer back so now I am able to read them. About the kitties, I'll have to think about that one.
I truly appreciate all of your remarks
THank you
Liz
