Changes

You know how sometimes
the same place is a different place?

The shore changes color,
now deep green, yesterday sky blue,
and the sand is raked
with a seagulls lonely prints,
when in July it was covered
with the urgent feet of children
and pales of laughter.

The sky is misty and gray
and the shadows falling across the sidewalk
are painted there by an artist with smile
who thought
a shadow of a parking meter to be great art
and it is, but it is not a parking meter
for an Egret folds it’s tall neck
across the sidewalk,
those days of summer shadows made themselves
from everywhere, they melted into each other.

The slanted wind nudges into my flannel
and the girl in a tight skirt locks the door
where the manikins in bikini’s frolic
and shorts are folded and drawered.

I could feel a holding today
when before only longing touched me,
it came across the tops of buildings
and swirled with the leaves dancing in the gutter,
it called to me from the formation of ducks
that covered the western sky
and it said, I love you,

and the thing that is different is,
I was listening.

Martie~
If you're listening - hear this ...

Not only does nobody do it better ~
we don't even come halfway close !

Remarkably vivid imagery rushes off the page
and slams into my vision ...
boom !
Head on collision with your thoughts.
Like I said -  nobody !

Martie you just keep getting better...this is just outstanding poetry...artistic perfection with words...goodness I thought this was one of the greatest reads I tied into for a long time... then I remembered your last one.... I know what you mean but the only same place that's a different place with me is that last week I had some money in the bank and this week ....guess what?   loved it Martie!!

That part reminded me of when I was younger and went with my family up to Duluth/Lake Superior for a few days in late February. Previously I had only seen those places in the summer, and it was a whole different way of looking at it...gray water and chunks of ice. Still beautiful, just different. Thanks for bringing back that memory.

...and listening can make a world of difference. Well done, Martie.

Martie, I am mesmerized at the style and content of your writing....

As our friend Marge has stated above "NO-ONE" can or even come close to your touch of pen in such purity of beauty expressed...

You've got that right Sis... I was just walkig down the 'ol avenue we noticed everything was new... but as we wandered farther didn't see nothing of the old. And as Marge says "boom." We wondered where we were... even thought we were lost. What a tale to tell and how awesome... we sure thought we were in the right place...

all our best Sis, dale

=======================
so much wisdom laced with-in that amazing imagery my dear...
some changes are forced upon us...
like the seasons, some are inevitable ...
its the ones we open our selves up to that are the ones that will take us farther on ...
i need to learn to listen, for a change.
love ya wise poet
me

I looked into the sky for my anthem
The words and music came through
But words and music can never touch the beauty that I've seen
Looking into you

"You know how sometimes
the same place is a different place?"

great idea for a poem Martie, it's so so true that "place" is all in the mind..and as usual all wrapped up in the most gorgeous natural images

Martie -
This is so beautiful - and I recognized all the thoughts - how the same shore can look and feel so different - yet be the same - and I really know the love of which you speak
