The Ring Bearer

Rehearsal was sheer chaos
So I figured in my mind
That things would fall right into place
And somehow work out fine

The coordinator, a balding man
Assured me up and down
That he would manage everything
From food to wedding gown

Tomorrow night they’ll do it right
So I was calmly told
Though ring bearer and flower girl
Were only two years old!

But they would have an escort
Holding both their hands
A boy of ten years old was there
To firmly take command

My daughter’s boys, aged one and two
Brought many a loving smile
Each in a tux, one named Alex
The ring bearer was Kyle

The bridesmaids looked exquisite
But one forgot her shawl
So then among the five of them
None wore a shawl at all

The bride forgot her “something blue”
A ring with bright blue stone
A special gift from Dad
Who swiftly flew back to her home

He arrived with ring half an hour late
But that was quite all right
The wedding finally started
In the dimming of day’s light

The bridesmaids slowly walked the aisle
But not the little lad
Kyle ran right past them screaming
Into the arms of Dad

No one could wrench the little one
From  father’s loving arms
Not even Grandpa with a cookie
Could win with all his charms

The bridesmaids just continued
In the rhythm of their pace
As Kyle settled in Daddy’s arms
A smile upon his face

Then someone grabbed the ring bearer
And whisked him out the door
The one year old was then removed
For he was screaming more

The flower girl had disappeared
And when I turned around
The boy escort proceeded
Dropping petals all around

Finally bride and Dad walked in
The show was under way
A few small blunders wouldn’t mar
My daughters wedding day

A prayer was said, a poem read
They took their wedding vows
But as fate would have it
Chaos would reign again somehow

The wedding coordinator abruptly
Came bursting  down the aisle
The one year old in one arm
And chasing after Kyle

Trying to grab his little tux
And remove him once again
Outsmarted by the ring bearer
Who ran the race to win

He headed straight for Mommy
Who did the proper thing
She picked him up and held him
As they exchanged their wedding rings

With child in hand dressed in his tux
And now relieved of strife
They all were blessed and finally
Pronounced husband and wife

They kissed their kiss, Kyle kissed them too
They turned to walk away
The bride holding her little son
And groom with bride’s bouquet

They walked out to a cheering crowd
Who’d laughed the whole way through
Sometimes spontaneous events
You simply can’t outdo

The best times of your life aren’t planned
Where nothing can go wrong
And little Kyle showed all of us
He knew where he belonged

Lizzie~
What a DELIGHTFUL way to spark the day !
I love this and it had to be a moment for
Candid Camera !
Precious of you to share it with us.
Adorably done !
I like the grin it put on my face -
think I'll read it again !
Love you-
Oh, did Kyle get to go on the Honeymoon too?

Liz,
what magic you weave with your words. I laughed and cried with the crowd at Kyle's antics.
Be well

Hey, when exactly was the wedding? I thought it wasn't going to happen until April. Anyway, congratulate the bride and groom for me.

Elizabeth,

This so too cute!!!!  Sometimes things happen no matter how much you plan.  And well, kids can be so unpredictable!!!!  This is a wonderful story that will amuse the future generations to come.  I am sure it was a wedding that not many will forget thanks to Kyle.  Great writing!!

This is a delightfully adorable story/poem.
It just goes to show ya, no matter how much planning is involved, NOTHING ever goes as perfectly expected.   My wedding vows were flubbed because the preacher wanted us to repeat after him TOGETHER, but he didn't bother to tell us that at the rehearsal the day before.

Elizabeth~
My dear, this was an absolute delight!  I loved it from beginning to end.  As a matter of fact, I am going to have to print this one out and hang it on my wall, because I think that I need to be reminded every now and then that even a child knows where he needs to be -- with the ones who love him and accept him for himself.  My thanks to Kyle!!!!!!
