I saw an owl today,
He landed on a fence.
He looked at me,
Then flew away
And filled my heart with dread.

He brought to mind
some Indian lore
Of ill-fated omens
and messengers of death.
Though not a believer,
It gave me pause
To reflect upon myself.

I saw an owl today,
He landed on a fence.
He looked at me,
Then flew away
And filled my heart with dread.

i don't believe that I have had the pleasure but I am so glad that I stopped by for this one. The title drew me in.  I am a huge fan of Native American lore and I loved this piece.  The owl represents many things and over most it is an omen of GOOD things to come usually accompanied by either monetary uprising in your favor or an emotional attachment that will blossom with the wisdom of TWO instead of one being lost in it and the other guiding.

I once collected owls, but my collection has diminished.
They are intriguing animals. I don't know too much about the Lore, but I always loved the birds.

I never thought of it til recently, that they are birds of the 'night.'

Loved the poem!

Rather the owl be a symbol of good or bad
does not matter. That it reminded you to stop and look at yourself is what counted.
I really liked this poem.

Mark,

Thank you for responding.  I see from you and others that I have been missinformed. This poem was generated from an early morning meeting while I was on my way to work. I have enjoyed seeing owls throughout my life.  I count myself fortunate have seen 2 snowy owls in the wild.  Thank you for setting me straight....INclan
