cape despair

the season is ending soon
the leaves have made their final show
nature has given her farewell performance
as summer heads to warmer climes
and winter comes to settle in to stay
with her icy heart and cold chills

and this year fall marked the farewell
of something different as well
of the summer of 'us'
the golden years of sunshine
that warm my cold empty nights
as I lay wrapped in the memories
that I should have dumped
with the box of my love letters
so the trash man could enjoy those too

but I can't erase you from my heart
you are there, as is my hope
tucked away like eternal spring
and I pray the flowers will come again
after the winter's fury
and I pray my heart will thaw

but now, I can feel your hand
on the door of our love
and you're going
and you're taking the sun with you
and it will never shine again
on my smile, or my heart

unless
(oh god)
unless
you stay

as sad as it may seem, the world keeps on turning. i used to deny even that, but it does. i'm reminded of the wise words of hootie:

"let her cry; if the tears fall down like rain.
let her sing; if it eases all her pain.
let her go; let her walk right out on me.
and if the sun comes up tomorrow...let her be."

the sun's gonna come up tomorrow. take the memories for what they're worth.

a great, heart-achy read.

Everyone's got their demons.
We all got somethin' to atone for.

So very sad Celeste...

a heart-achy read indeed, and a well-written one.

"He looked across the
silky surface of the Severn...
it was a famously difficult
river with fierce tides..."
