~ ~ ~
~ ~ ~
Bittersweet
crimson root of anguish,
intransigent plant still flaunting
itself through my heart, twisting, digging
deep into crevasses of emotions
that I cannot
remove.

It’s pure raw
pain to be around little girls;
with mine lost to me, and they’re
everywhere; they’re
everywhere.

~ ~ ~

I saw her last night
in the smile of another child, the
sparkle in her eyes, the quick and eager
graceful fluid movements of her lithe little body,

the music of her giggles. I’ve felt my soul crumble in church,
at supermarkets, and driving past school playgrounds ... I saw her
once in a swimming pool, her dark hair and sunny eyes
squinting wet at me above the surface, the rest of
her submerged; I knew it wasn’t Sheena, but
there she was, come back to me

just long enough to break

my heart

again

Rosemary,
My heart goes out to you. This is a very sad poem full of emotions. I am so sorry. This brought back a near tragic day in my life. I pulled one of my twin girls, out of a friend's swimming pool. I broke my leg diving in the pool and never give up, fighting for her life. To feel her breath again, was no more than a miracle, I never even felt the pain of my shattered leg. God is with us all!

Respond to my call and let the waves of my heart fill your life with the wonders of love
(Daniel J D)

Grief and painful rememberance pouring out from a beautiful heart, though achingly sad, this is exquisitly written

jonmcm - thank you so much!

Daniel J D - your story was astounding!  I’m so grateful your little girl lived - and you had the strength to endure a broken leg, to fight for her life!

Charisma - I really appreciate your care!

RainbowGirl - now there’s a good and sweet idea!

Elizabeth Santos - you know so much of sorrow - your comments mean a great deal to me!  Thank you!

Lorelei54 - I’m so sorry for your loss too.  Yes, I think we all will always see our lost ones in the corners of our mind, no matter how many years go by.  I see old ladies in my father’s nursing home, cuddling baby dolls in their laps, and I wonder who they’re missing ...

Victoria - you have a warm heart.  Thank you!

EagleOne - You have a warm heart too!  Yes, I was trying to reach beyond my own pain, and extend a hand of care to all who have lost.  Thank you!

Rosemary--I understand who you see, for I have seen her too, those colt legs dance around from many directions and make the loss new again.  Hugs to you...your poetry is always beautiful and tender.
