I sliced my finger
   on a forgotten envelpoe
Tucked away in
   a dresser drawer
But it was nothing
   compared to the pain
Of the slice to
   my heart
When I saw what
   the envelope held

Pictures from the past
Fading memories
My heart on a downward spiral
All the hurt coming back to me

I slid down to
   the floor
Your face held in
   my hands
All the memories
   flooding my mind
Of the love we
   once held dear
Revived in just
   one moment

Pictures from the past
Fading memories
My heart on a downward spiral
All the hurt coming back tome

Then a movement
  at the bedroom door
Brings my tear filled
   eyes to you
And in your eyes
   I caught your pain
Before you could
   turn
And leave me
   sitting there

Picture from the past
Fading memories
My heart on a downward spiral
All the hurt coming back to me

One by one I dropped
   your pictures
In the basket by
   my bed
Then ran to catch
   the man I hurt
And grab him by
   the hand
I touch his face
   and kiss his lips

Then say these words to him

They are only
Pictures from the past
Faded memories
My heart soars like the eagles
Because you took the pain from me

No longer will these memories
Come between your heart and mine
Lets love the way we were meant to
And leave the pain behind

Oh Paula, very impressively told. I guess it's true that we can hurt others with our own pain. Life is a hard road to stay on.
Take care.

You know Puala, if it's okay with you, I'd love to try to turn this poem into a song. Just add some notes, what do you think? Let me know if it's ok. See ya later.

Excellent work, Paula...I can see this scene unfolding so easily, giving mind to the bending emotions we know in love.
Very much enjoyed.

Paula,
This exceptional poem was so chock full of emotions I had to read it twice. This is a keeper for sure.
Be well

Paula,
What a great expression of something EVERYONE has been through - letting go of the past can be so difficult, no matter what the situation.  A beautiful poem.

Love the message...so many times we get stuck in the past or the pain of the past and it does affect relationships we are in right now...James

Azure...yes it is a difficult thing to do...let go of a past that haunts...but when it comes between a new love and you then somethings gotta give.

James...yes and you well know my pain friend...and you know how hard its been for me to let it go...but each day comes a little easier thanks to you...

Sea...well I hope this didnt bring back too many bad memories...thanks

JM...it gets easier every day...and if Trev has his way it will be a song soon
