I need to take a little while, and try to find a way-
Obtain the mental fortitude, to face another day...
Try to pull myself together, it will only take a minute-
Before I step out in a world that doesn’t have you in it.

For almost twenty-seven years you were at my side.
Since that time, so long ago, you said you’d be my bride.
Like most we had our ups and downs, I thought they made us strong-
I never dreamed, that one day, I’d return to find you gone.

Twenty-six and counting, and then one day it stopped-
I must have looked like quite a fool, the way my world was rocked.
The note said, “I don’t know you, somehow we’ve drawn apart-
And I need to fill the longing, for love that’s in my heart”.

I’d been on the road a lot, driving this old rig-
Convinced each year would be the one, when we would make it big.
The signs were there, I see it now; I knew not what was wrong-
Then I rolled in last Friday night, and all I had was gone.

The note said that you’d be in touch, to settle our affairs-
It told me of the needs you’d had, how I was never there...
Said, “Don’t come looking for me, it won’t do any good”.
You said, “I don’t regret it, even though I know I should”.

I guess marriage takes commitment, in a world that’s frantically
Trying to reach an unseen goal, we live a fantasy.
Homes are failing everywhere, so something must be wrong-
It always comes as such a shock, to find our dreams are gone.

"You come into this life crying, while the world rejoices. Your goal in life should be to live it in such a fashion, as to leave this world rejoicing,

Slinger~
This is quite poignantly sad ..

'Try to pull myself together, it will only take a minute-
Before I step out in a world that doesn’t have you in it.'

Another well-written tale you've drawn me into.

Hi Gunslinger...
This one struck home.
I'm in a similar situation.
Needless to say, it's not
fun.

Take care and keep up the
good writes
