That last night you kissed me
I would never have imagined
Our relationship would expire
I know it broke your heart
The day I stood in the rain
Refusing to take the ring back.

The love we had for each other
Will never be experienced
By either of us ever again
I loved you so dearly, and you me
The times we had I'll always remember
Even though it has been years
How can I ever forget your touch.

Hours we spent talking
Days we spent in each others arms
That first kiss, your first
Is entrenched in my mind
Every time I think of that moment
The tears are nearby, happy tears.
I will always love you
More than anyone close to me
Because you cared until that night
Tore our love apart.
I know you regret it
And I know you still love me.

I missed the film that night
As I waited for you to come home.
Even though your mother
Did tell me your best friend
Had enticed you to accompany her
Little did you know her intent
She hated me for loving you
And took you to someone else
Who served you the best of drinks
And then used you for the night
Whilst, I waited for you.

I waited long and hard
Knowing you could not face me again
It was not your fault
And when I did see you
All I wanted to know was if you
Still loved me.
The rain hid my tears
But I could see yours
You gave me back the ring
And you said sorry
I whispered softly
'I will love you forever'

Whenever I think of you
My only real love, I see a lifetime
That never happened.
I hope you have been taken care of
As good as I would have cared for you
I will never forget you
I know you still think of me.

Daniel, is this based off of actual personal experience? If so, my dear, I empathize GREATLY. What a tearing subject... you've opened it tactfully and with a somehow subtle optimistic view. This is a very nice piece.

Elizabeth,
You guessed right. She has had an impact on me now which will live with me till I die. I was 19 and she was 18 when we parted. It was her wish, and I respected her.

Oh wow.  I was really impressed when I read this...I had to share it with my ex...And I can really relate to where you're coming from in writing it.  I'm looking forward to seeing more by you.
Always,

With a little piece of tomorrow,
You'll have to kiss yesterday goodbye.
Because today won't last forever,
And the past will only make you cry.

Nicole,
I am so happy that I was able to bring back some of the good memories in your life. For me it has not been easy, once contact was lost, we never saw each other again.

Reading this truly made my heart ache for you. I wonder sometimes if its a good thing that such beautiful writings come from such sad experiences..

This was a very moving piece that touched my heart with the words from your soul...a beautifully bitter-sweet poem. Excellent work~

Daniel, I guess everyone goes through someone they truly love but then sometimes the love is gave back as we plan, I'm so sorry, but I know you've heard the phrase if you love it go and if it's meant to be it will come back, it's very true.

JD~
This is a poignant memory you've shared.
I can only guess that she was a good memory to keep.

I believe in keeping and revisiting our memories ...
especially when they touch us so deeply.

A memorable write.

nicely written JD..we all remember a special someone from our past..the one who makes our heart skip a beat as mine did when i was 18..everytime i saw him i would freeze haa..and try to act so cool..if he only knew how he made me feel..he was so conceited i didnt want to make his head any bigger haa..so i always acted like he wasnt anything special..he was older then i was and not just in years..i know this is kind of gross but on my first date with him i threw up my dinner when i saw him coming haa.. i was so nervous about going out with him haa...if he only knew...enjoyed JD

It takes a strong person to let go, and you have displayed that envied trait.  Excellent write, my friend, and *hugs* to you!

Snowpants,
For years I have battled with this heartache, I am still not over the pain.

BirdeeB,
So glad I was able to share this with you

Marge,
Thank you so much. Yes, she will never be erased from my memory.

Butterflies_dont_cry,
Your kind words make me feel like a real butterfly, flying freely.

Your_babydoll,
I think it is best to pen such feelings for others to experience

Rosebud,
I only wished she had asked me back, I really feel she felt so ashamed of that night.

Victoria,
Oh Yes, she made my heart beat and still does. The impact she has had on me has made me a better person no doubt.

Paula Finn,
Yes, I definitely would have treasured a lifetime with her at my side, in fact an eternity.
