I believed myself immune to all addictions
Excepting you. I'd have scoffed at the predictions
I'd be slave to artificial oblivion,
But I'll try anything to make the hurt be gone.
I never craved highs; I just hoped somehow to gain
The briefest of respites from this unending pain.
At first, I just wanted, but now I find I need
These drinks. And so in nightly ritual I plead
As a starving man salivates over a crumb
I beg my bottle: Give me the mercy of numb.

Reject, wow man...I don't quite know precisely how to respond to this one.  The rhyme was great, and the story...whoa, the story.  Nice job!

From experience I can tell you that is very hard when you find an emptiness in you and the best way to fill it is to keep yourself busy with activities and NOT the bottle, believe me I have been there.  It hurts so if you can find things to do with close friends it does get better over time but the memory of the good times are the ones that need to be focused on. You will make it, I know and you have penned your pain and agony of emptiness well.  Wonderful write.

this is powerful, the dark emotion of missing someone can be so overwhelming that numb is welcome...this I too know
