I Didn't Get any Letters from Vietnam

The war was near the end,
and many boys were praying,
Please God, not me.

The war continued its viscious cycle
and many mamas were praying,
Please God, not my son

The war continued - ravaging through Vietnam
and many girlfriends were praying
Please Lord, not my man

The war raged on without any sense
and many friends and family were praying
Please God, not him

The war had its death toll
and many children were praying
Please God, bring back daddy

The war destroyed many a heart
and each prisoner was a praying
Please God, get me home

The war left many a young men
to other Countries - a Praying
Please God let my country take me back again

Some of the Prayers were answered
but the war did kill and maim
and many mothers cried the horrid
keening of death with their pain

And, many wondered many years
is my boy still alive?
and many never got their answer
for many years after the war's end

The war ended - with pain on
both sides, and when our boys
came arriving home they were
called "baby killers"
and spit in the eye

War is a terrible thing
and to think it's done for money
Makes me go to my Johnny's grave
and tell him --

"I know you weren't there
long enough to even start
a letter ---Oh, how I loved
you, honey."

No, I never got a letter
from Vietnam

NetSwan~
My tears fall for your loss.
Deeply know that your sorrow
is my sorrow.
Beautifully written from the heart
of a mother.  God bless you and
Johnny for his sacrifice.
Memories like yours are echoed
all across the nation.
Understand that I remember.
Love to you.

With a heavy heart I reply. The content of this poem, so heartfelt and so powerful fairly took my breath away. Having never been in your shoes, I think you nevertheless managed to make me feel at least a little of what it must have been like. Smiles for your bravery, tears for your loss.

Many first letters never made it home ...
content sensored and destroyed

sad fact ... but necessary

Deeply moved, yet sitting still, I remain,
Sitting still, thinking hard, I am...

Nice work Teresa.

Take each day as it comes,
Consider each day as a flight,
Try hard to succeed and fly,
Surely then you will reach some height.

But if by some chance you don’t,
Remember that tomorrow will always come.
Learn this well and learn this hard
That today’s efforts will pay for tomorrow’s fun.

Netswan* **Angel wing Hugs** for all you have been through, I'm so sorry for your loss.  This was a heartbreaking piece with the love of a mother giving it wings to fly...nothing is more beautiful than that.

 Hold me for yesterday
Kiss me for tomorrow
But love me for today.

This brought tears to my eyes. I just don't know what to say except that I'm very sorry for what you went through and that I'm sure that Johnny's waiting for you in Heaven.
